Won Tons

Yield: 50 appetizers

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 4 large uncooked shrimp, shelled and deveined
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 50 won ton wrappers
  • oil for deep frying
  • 1 Tbs soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 4 water chestnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped

Instructions

In a small skillet, saute pork until browned. Remove and discard drippings. Chop shrimp very fine. Stir shrimp, water chestnuts and onion into sauteed pork. Cook and stir about 2 minutes. Stir in egg, soy sauce, salt and pepper. Spoon about 1 1/2 tsp pork mixture on center of each won ton wrapper. Moisten edges of wrappers with water. Fold two opposite corners together over filling, making a triangle. Press edges together to seal. Pour oil for deep-frying into a deep fryer to depth recommended by manufacturer or pour oil 2 inches deep in a heavy medium saucepan. Heat oil to 375 degrees. At this temperature a 1 inch cube of bread will turn golden brown in 40 seconds. Lower won tons into hot oil one at a time. Fry about 1 minute until crisp and golden brown. Drain on paper towel; serve hot. Yield: 50 appetizers.
