Apple Butter Rolls
Yield: 16 rolls
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbs sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup apple butter
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 Tbs butter or margarine, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup apple butter
Instructions
In mixing bowl stir together flour, baking powder, 1 tablespoon sugar and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk, stirring just until moistened. Knead on lightly floured surface for 8 - 10 strokes. roll dough into a 16 X 8 inch rectangle. Spread with softened butter or margarine. Combine 1/2 cup apple butter and raisins; spread evenly over dough. Roll up jelly roll style, beginning with long side. Seal seam well. Cut into 1 inch slices. Place cut side down in greased 8 X 8 X 2 baking pan. Spread surface of rolls with 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon and 1/4 cup apple butter. Spread over top. Bake in 375 degree oven for 30 - 35 minutes. Remove from pan, serve warm. Yield: 16 rolls.
